If you really want to understand how it is that Republicans have been winning elections by getting people to vote against their own best interests, then you MUST read this article. Republicans have been running a con game against the American people for the last four decades and this article explains how they are doing it. We, the vast majority of the American people can not take our country back from the Party of Greed, until we understand what we are up against.
A short excerpt:
“The Republican Party has been running a long con on the American people, and Trump’s new tax cut proposals are just the latest iteration on it. This con involves getting Democrats to shoot Santa Claus (Clinton cutting welfare/Obama proposing the chained CPI cut to Social Security) and using tax policy to put a jolly old Saint Nick outfit on the Republicans.
As Bruce Bartlett – one of the architects and major salespeople for Reagan’s tax cuts in the ‘80s – wrote in USA Today this week: “Virtually everything Republicans say about taxes today is a lie. Tax cuts and tax rate reductions will not pay for themselves; they never have. Republicans don’t even believe they will, they are just excuses to slash spending for the poor when revenues collapse and deficits rise. There is no evidence that tax reform raises growth, although it may improve fairness and tax administration.”
So how do Republicans get away with this lie, and why does the press let them get away with it? It’s a fascinating story…………….

I think as usual that Mike is missing the point. As Carville and Begalla said in their book about the Reagan years, Reagan was responsible for the largest tax increase in American history. His tax cuts increased tax revenues to the treasury.
Why aren’t the rich and middleclass entitled to some relief? Why is it only the poor? Why not cut pork and PBS and the NEA and other things that benefit just a few people?
Most people can work, they just need a job.
Most people don’t know much about finance and economics. Mike is a classic example of this deficit.

Bron,
The rich people are NOT entitled to relief because they have been receiving relief since 1980 and their income has grown out of proportion to the rest of the country. This tax cut will actually hurt the middleclass by removing some of the few things left to them as deductions and giving them $1,000 in return. What you call the poor have been suffering for 50 years and have been overtaxed all through that time. As for me not understanding finance or economics I can only laugh given that your economic gurus are Rand and Von Mises.

•Increases the standard deduction from $6,300 to $15,000 for singles and from $12,600 to $30,000 for married couples filing jointly.
Sounds pretty good to me. That mortgage interest deduction is crap as are all deductions created for special interests by congress.
Actually, I think Rand borrowed from Bastiat and Say. Von Mises too. Get a fugging clue Mike.

Bron,
The “special interests” you refer to includes a good portion of the American Middle Class, who pay a higher percentage of taxes than most American corporations and certainly more than the members of the “One Percent”.

in terms of % yes but the top 20% pay a good share of the taxes.
The entire tax system is messed up, it should be a flat tax with no deductions at all. Total should be 10-15% and some of that should be given to the state. Services like the dmv should be privatized. Why do we need a dmv? To collect more taxes. You libs only care about the middleclass when there is opportunity for political gain. Otherwise you don’t give a red rats rear end. Its the same with black Americans, put them into poverty for political gain and ignore them except in election years when you give lip service to their suffering at leftist hands. Thank god I have a consistent world view.

Bron,
They should because they receive an inordinate amount of the benefits from Government.

How so? Because they have a private jet or because they drive a Rolls Royce? Or maybe its because they own 4 houses instead of 1 or 2?
